I've watched the 2015 I2PCon videos in full several times. It's one of the things that got me so interested in I2P earlier this year. If there was another one, I would totally go IRL. Is this something the big I2P people are considering in the future? I2PCon 2019 would be pretty awesome, just saying.

Privacy, after freedom of speech, is the only real prerequisite to civil liberty in the digital age because "freedom is always the freedom of the dissenters, of the one who thinks differently" (Rosa Luxemburg).

Hi

the idea of I2PCon is nice and we do have several ideas, but most of them are just ideas.
A few parts needs to fit:
- place, place, place
mostly a area to which all I2P members are allowed to visit (e.g. most likely not the US)
also a place with a local user group preparing the Con, aka doing most of the work

Note:
some kind of I2PCon is the Chaos Communication Congress each year in Leipzig - at least the last 6 years the I2P team did meet there and discuss I2P dev work.

Awesome! I know the last one was in Toronto, is that still a viable option? Are there any videos of I2P at the Chaos Communication Congress? I'd definitely want to see them!

I2PCon turned out to be a difficult & exhausting thing for many team members who were involved in organizing and successfully holding the event. While it was quite an excellent event, we would need to be careful & mindful about the health of team members who organize & run an event like this if/when we decide to have another I2PCon.

There has been some discussion related to organizing a conference for anonymity/privacy/security related open source projects, as well as anyone interested in these areas, in Japan but these are in the very, very, early stages so nothing definite is planned at all at this point in time.

Some random ideas (not plans) inspired by discussions at 35c3:

* It would be nice to have the next I2PCon-ish event somewhere in Asia, maybe Tokyo or Taipei.
* I should say I2P is not a household name, so the power to attract people is quite limited. Maybe we can have "PrivacyCon Asia" or something like that, with other groups like Tor, Freenet, GNUnet, etc. Small version of IFF, perhaps? Need careful coordination if we do so.
* If we do it in Tokyo, the Tokyo Olympic will be held in Summer 2020. After that, the airfare, hotel fee, etc. would be dramatically reduced. Fall-Winter 2020 might be a good opportunity.
* I don't personally have any experience to organize such events, but I think I can at least offer the venue. There is a research institute I'm affiliated with, located in Roppongi (central Tokyo, nearby foreign embassies, Google or Facebook offices, etc. So kinda foreigner-friendly area). It has a small hall, can accommodate up to 80 people, with screens and good wifi. Looks like this: http://icpc.gr.jp/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/...
* Many people can't understand English here, so we need E-J translators. I think I can find tech-savvy translators, but they will cost $100-200/hour or so.
